Jason Bateman Set To Direct Adaptation Of “The Partner”, Starring Tom Holland
After his Emmy-winning work directing the hit Netflix show Ozark, as well as his recent director gig on Black Rabbit – currently streaming on Netflix – it seems Jason Bateman is heading back to the big screen for his next behind-the-camera job (via Deadline).
Bateman, who last directed The Family Fang in 2015, is in talks to direct the new adaptation of John Grisham’s novel The Partner, which will also executive-produce the film through his Aggregate Films banner alongside Universal Pictures.
The film has already set Tom Holland (Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Cherry) to star and produce the new film through his Billy 17 Productions alongside Harry Holland and Will South.
The film will mark the first Grisham big-screen adaptation since 2003’s Runaway Jury, which starred John Cusack, Dustin Hoffman, Rachel Weisz and Gene Hackman. Through the 90s and 2000s, countless films were made of his work, including A Time To Kill and The Client by director Joel Schumacher; The Firm starring Tom Cruise; The Pelican Brief starring Denzel Washington and Julia Roberts; and The Rainmaker, which starred Matt Damon and Danny DeVito.
Holland will play Patrick Lanigan, “a young partner in a white shoe Biloxi law firm who fakes his own death in a burning car. He leaves behind a wife, a newborn daughter, and a secret. What he’s actually done is fake his death to create a template for a new life by stealing $90 million from a client of his crooked law firm”.
