Apart from been a good actor Jake Gyllenhaal, bereavement seems to be a common theme in his recent films and in Demolition that theme continues. In Jean Marc Vallee‘s latest outing a recent widower life unravels only to mend that struggle by demolishing things! Watch UK trailer

In Demolition, Davis (Jake Gyllenhaal), a successful investment banker, struggles after losing his wife in a tragic car crash. Despite pressure from his father in law Phil (Chris Cooper) to pull it together, Davis continues to unravel. What starts as a complaint letter to a vending machine company turns into a series of letters revealing startling personal admissions. Davis’ letters catch the attention of customer service rep Karen (Naomi Watts) and, amidst emotional and financial burdens of her own, the two form an unlikely connection. With the help of Karen and her son Chris (Judah Lewis), Davis starts to rebuild, beginning with the demolition of the life he once knew.

Wild may have not have had the success of The Dallas Buyers Club, it was still a favourite film with The Peoples Movies. It does look like a trio of films consisting of characters on a journey of closure, of an life event. Davis it’s his wife’s death and in the trailer we get a slice of his anguish all thanks to a vending machine , packet of M&Ms.Anyone who has experienced sudden death in their families even the smallest of details can cause such friction . This was only 10 minutes after his wife died, this film could be a study of grieving and rebuilding your life from a male persepective. As our mindset sometimes makes us believe it’s male like to cry in these circumstance, find another vessel to unleash  your pain. In this film it’s demolishing things and as you’ll see even a bulldozer is thrown into the mix. Intriguing stuff .

Demolition will release in UK cinemas 29th April 2016.
