She wants a real marriage again says Maeve Soares played by Meyrl Streep, I’ve been told its hard and at times you sometimes need a helping hand like a 40 year virgin? Step forward the first trailer for HOPE SPRINGS also starring Steve Carrell, Tommy Lee Jones, and Elizabeth Shue.
After the bumpy ride at the box office with The Iron Lady (though do they care she won the Oscar?!) Streep finds herself in safer less demanding comedy territory with regular collaborator David Frankel . Streep plays Kay with Tommy Lee Jones are husband Arnold a married couple approaching their ‘twilight years’ find themselves find the marriage going into a rut and they seek help, well Maeve does. Dr Bernie Field(Steve Carrell) is the answer to hopefully the end of the Soares rut but will he stop Arnold been the Victor Meldrew that he’s been? With self help book in hand the Soares head off to a retreat to hopefully relight the passion in the marriage.
Usually rom coms that have shaky relationships as the centre point of the film, it tends to be younger couples so I’m sure fans of these types of films will enjoy the older couple been in the spotlight. It’s a comedy but a more serious one and you can really see that in Steve Carrell’s character as he funny but not as funny mode we’re used to with him, whatever you think of this film Hope Springs will probably be nominated for next years Oscars. Will it win? who knows anything can happen when Meyrl’s in it!
Hope Springs will arrive in UK&Ireland January 13th 2013.
