Interview: Tommy Kai Chung Ng & Polly Yeung Talk Another World
We chat to Director & Producer for Hong Kong Animated Film ahead of UK Premiere
Hong Kong isn’t known for its animated features, but Another World is looking to change that. A dazzling fantasy epic, Another World is an anime‑inspired feature aiming to cement Hong Kong as a place to watch in the world of animation.
Another World follows Gudo, a spirit who guides souls on their journey to reincarnation. He meets a young girl named Yuri, who is searching for her lost brother, and asks Gudo to help her search for him, not realising she has died.
Ahead of the UK premiere of Another World, we caught up with director Tommy Kai Chung Ng, as well as the writer and producer, Polly Yeung. We discussed the origins of Another World, the film’s unique structure, whether they believe it’s normal for people die with regret and anger, how many different versions of a character’s design there were before they had the final desgin and so much more.

Synopsis | After death and before reincarnation, the souls of the deceased pass through a fantastical realm known as, Another World. GUDO is a spirit tasked with guiding these transient souls to their next life.
While helping a young girl named YURI, he learns that humans have emotions that he does not understand, and his curiosity is stirred. He befriends Yuri and promises to always be with her through her difficult journey.
However, Yuri harbors a rare curse that could threaten humanity and upset the balance of the universe if she is fully consumed by anger. Through Gudo’s revelation, Yuri discovers a grave sin she committed in her past life. Unable to forgive herself, her growing anger risks unleashing the hidden curse. Charged by Goddess Mira to prevent this threat, Gudo embarks on a perilous thousand-year mission.
Despite constant conflicts with his guardian, Dark Sky, Gudo insists on giving Yuri a second chance at the risk of his life. He learns that forgiveness and inner peace is the only way to overcome the anger within and heal a broken world.
