Insidious James Wan In Line To Direct Fast& Furious 7?

With the franchise buzz at a all time high after last week’s news that Justin Lin wont be directing Fast& Furious 7 Universal aren’t wasting time on a replacement which looks like it could be James Wan.
It’s been common knowledge for a while that the seventh film was going to start filming during this Summer despite 6th film not even in cinemas yet. With the studio expected to make an formal announcement this week who will be the new helmer, deadline have learned the man whose given horror much needed impotence is in talks to keep the engines running in fast& Furious 7. It’s believed Universal have known since this year’s Sundance festival that Lin wouldn’t be back for another film, a franchise he’s been directing since Tokyo Drift and Brad Furman (The Lincoln Lawyer), Harald Zwart (Karate Kid remake),Jeff Wadlow (Kick Ass 2) and Baltasar Kormakur (Contraband).
So it seems this that James Wan might have been in talks for a while with Lin endorsing Wan as the choice, here’s what he said:
โIโm extremely proud to be part of the Fast franchise, it is an experience I will always treasure. Itโs time for me to move on to other things and Iโm thrilled that Universal and Neal have selected James Wan to lead the franchise into its new chapter.โ
Though it might be disappointing news Lin has left the franchise but there is only so much creativity you can bring to one franchise before you have to call it a day and if Wan can deliver the thrills he’s done in horror it could be exciting times ahead for all. Fast& Furious 7 will be the directors biggest project to date his only stumbling block is Fast&Furious 7 is a continuation of the upcoming movie 6 so don’t be surprised if Lin will be onboard on a executive level. However Neal Moritz will be onboard to produce with Chris Morgan scripting the film with Vin Diesel and Paul Walker all confirmed to return so there will be plenty of experience around to help Wan.
Keeping with James Wan with The Conjuring due out 19th July, Insidious chapter 2 has a new release date well a confirmed US date of 13th September with all the Lambert family members returning (including the brilliant Lynn Shey). The second chapter the Lambert’s attempt to uncover the mysterious childhood secret that has left them dangerously connected to the spirit world. Expect to hear more from that film shortly as its in post production!
Fast& Furious 6 will land in UK&Ireland 17th May , USA 24th May.
