In New Star Trek Beyond Featurette Idris Elba Introduces Krall

Star Trek Beyond Idris Elba

Let’s be honest when it comes to new films from tentpole franchise’s like Star Trek many of our first questions is “whose the baddie?”. Later this month in Star Trek Beyond  Idris Elba will have the honour as Krall, the Federation’s most deadly new enemy in the upcoming film.Today Paramount Pictures have a released a short behind the scenes  featurette in which the British actor introduces, talks about his character. Director Justin Lin, Simon Pegg and Chris Pine also deliver a few words in what Krall would bring to the legendary franchise.

In Star Trek Beyond the Enterprise is in the middle of it’s 5 year mission to explore the galaxy and boldly go where no one has gone before. As the crew try to decide where next on that mission things suddenly go wrong  when they confront new unknown baddie Krall (Idris Elba) who is against all that Federation Of Planets (aka Starfleet) stand for. The attack find s the crew scrambling to a nearby planet, scattered everywhere could mean the crew attempt to re-unite with each other to regain control of the Enterprise.

When it comes to Star Trek Villains many are just straight up evil, sadistic but at times we get one that are menacing, evil but you may have a sense of empathy for. Krall seems to one of those baddies that has alot of beef with the Federation. Something must have happened at one time to cheese him off, Elba describes him as ‘Complex’. Many will see him as a villain but not one made out of evil. Director Justin Lin said “I wanted a character that is there to deconstruct the Federation’s ideals, but to do it in a way where he has a very valid philosophy.”

Since the release of the last trailer Rhinanna‘s song ‘Sledgehammer‘ created some buzz until we finally got a chance to see the video in it’s entirety. One thing that stood out was it’s setting which looked like one of the planets The Enterprise could explore. In a bonus promo you get a behind the scenes look at the making of Sledgehammer…

Star Trek Beyond is set to arrive in UK, Irish and U.S cinemas from 22nd July. Also starring  Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, John Cho, Anton Yelchin, Joe Taslim, Sofia Boutella.
