Himesh Patel Joins Ryan Coogler’s The X-Files Reboot
The Tenet and Yesterday star joins Danielle Deadwyler in the new series
Sources from Yahoo have confirmed that Yesterday and Don’t Look Up star Himesh Patel has been cast in the upcoming Hulu reboot of The X-Files by Sinners director Ryan Coogler, alongside fellow star Danielle Deadwyler. The show will be a reboot of the original cult hit of the same name, starring Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny as Dana Scully and Fox Mulder, two agents tasked with investigating mysterious, paranormal occurrences.
“Two highly decorated but vastly different FBI agents form an unlikely bond when they are assigned to a long-shuttered division devoted to cases involving unexplained phenomena,” the synopsis for the reboot reads.
The reboot series was announced in March 2023, with Coogler set to oversee and focus on it once his fifth feature, the now Oscar-winning hit Sinners, was completed. He then told Polygon in December 2025: “We intend on having both monsters of the week and also the overarching conspiracy”. In February 2026, there were reports that the streaming site Hulu had placed an order for the reboot’s pilot, with original creator Carter serving as one of the executive producers and Jennifer Yale as showrunner.
Coogler’s additional director credits include his feature debut, Fruitvale Station, Creed, Black Panther and its sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
Deadwyler is also known for her work in Till by Chinonye Chukwu and The Piano Lesson by Malcolm Washington
The original X-Files was created by Chris Carter and debuted on the 10th September 1993 and ran for nine seasons, concluding on the 19th May 2002, with a 1998 feature film, The X-Files, released during the run. It was then followed by another film, The X-Files: I Want to Believe, in 2008, and two more seasons in 2016 and 2018.
The X-Files followed in the wake of suspenseful shows such as The Twilight Zone (1959-1964), Tales from the Darkside (1984-1988) and Twin Peaks (1990-1991) and was a smash hit and a turning point in pop culture’s interest in conspiracy theories.
