HBO Name It’s Harry Potter Series Director And Showrunner

Harry Potter TV Series coming to HBO

For over a year we’ve known we’re heading back to Hogwarts with the Harry Potter TV Series. Today Warner Bros. Television and HBO announce showrunner and director. The honours go to Succession duo Francesca Gardiner (His Dark Materials, Killing Eve) and Mark Mylod (Game of Thrones and The Last of Us).

Gardiner will be the show’s showrunner and executive producer, with Mylod as executive producer and director of multiple episodes. The show is still currently in development, this news should excite Potterheads that we are a step closer going back to where it all started. New cast, much loved stories with it now coming to television. With Harry Potter: Prisoner Of Azkaban celebrating it’s 20th anniversary and the failure of Fantastic Beats, this new series gives hope to franchise fans.

The series will be a faithful adaptation of the beloved “Harry Potter” book series by author and executive producer J.K. Rowling. The series will feature a new cast to lead a new generation of fandom, full of the fantastic detail and much-loved characters “Harry Potter” fans have loved for over twenty-five years. Each season will bring “Harry Potter” and these incredible adventures to new audiences around the world, while the original, classic and cherished films will remain at the core of the franchise and available to watch globally.

Soon the focus will go on who will play the boy who lived, the teachers and other iconic characters. How close to the J.K Rowling books will this series follow?

The series is written and executive produced by Francesca Gardiner. Mark Mylod will executive produce and direct multiple episodes of the series for HBO in association with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television. The series is executive produced by J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and TV, and David Heyman of Heyday Films.

Harry Potterseries, doesn’t have an official title just yet. HBO are set to release the first season in 2026, no word on what channel will show the series in the UK and Ireland just yet.
