The Summer maybe overran with blockbuster films that religiously rely on CGI however like many things, going back to basics and traditions refreshes the pallette with Lisandro Alonso‘s Jauja does the trick. The film is due a limited release in USA a trailer has arrived online check it out…
Jauja set in 1880’s stars Viggo Mortensen as a Danish engineer Dinesen who joins Argentinian Army sent to an remote corner of Patagoina. He travels there with his teenage daughter who elopes a young local soldier the pair runaway, Dinesen must track them down. As his journey progresses it leads him into the wilderness deeper more dangerous deep into enemy lines.
Jauja looks a gorgeous film very haunting film delivers alot of mood, atmosphere that fans of The Searchers or even Apocalypse Now may enjoy this. It looks poetic existential Western drama, looking forward to see why Sight&Sound voted it one of the best films of 2014.
Soda Pictures will be releasing Jauja in UK&Ireland 10th April however you can catch the film later this month on 26th& 27th February at Glasgow Film Festival (book ticket here). The film also stars Diego Roman, Ghita Nørby and Viilbjørk Malling Agger.
