When a certain Baz Luhrmann is involved, it’s obvious the budget will have to be big and running at nearly $8million an episode (about £6.5miliion UK). The season one reviews delivered enough evidence a season two was on the cards. The new series looks like it will follow the same stories from the first series. If you’re looking to get into Luhrmann’s frenetic style which is like marmite to some, this series might just be a good intro into his world.
Part Two of The Get Down picks up in 1978, one year after the events of Part One. The sweeping upheaval of late 70s New York City finds an as-yet-unnamed new pop cultural force striking a new beat in the Bronx, while disco still reigns supreme. Our young lover’s Books and Mylene are caught in the swirl of a looming cultural revolution destined to change everything about their world – but they have this moment to make their mark. Amidst the backdrop of a bankrupt New York City, ruthless gangsters and money-hungry record label bosses, they discover it’s only their creativity and love that will carry them through — and that they’ll sacrifice everything for their music, and each other.
The Get Down Part 2 is set to launch globally including UK&Ireland 7th April. The series will star Justice Smith, Shameik Moore, Jimmy Smits, Skylan Brooks, Shyrley Rodriguez, and Skylan Brooks.
