Get Duked! writer/director Ninian Doff on the secret of “farmer’s courage” …..

When Edinburgh’s Ninian Doff saw his first ever feature film open the city’s film festival last year, it was “incredible”, to use his own words.  Now we all get the chance to see why his anarchic comedy captured the imagination of festival audiences, as it arrives on Amazon Prime – but under a different name.

Get Duked! (originally known as Boyz In The Wood) is a comedy/horror mashup following four teenagers – three tearaways plus a more serious one – as they get to grips with a weekend in the Scottish Highlands for the Duke Of Edinburgh’s Award scheme.  The beautiful but unforgiving landscape isn’t their only challenge: the locals are non-too-friendly either, especially a group of aristocrats, who have the gang in their rifle sights – literally.

Talking to The People’s Movies’ Freda Cooper, Doff reflects on his lifelong love of cinema and how it’s influenced his debut, remembers going head to head with swarms of midges on the shoot – and reveals (possibly) the secret behind “farmer’s courage”, which has a crucial influence on the film and its characters  …..

Get Duked! is released on Amazon Prime on Friday, 28 August.
