Gender Inequality in Film Infographic Reveals The Gap

In light of the monster box office of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, we thought it high time to take a much closer look at how women are being portrayed, employed, compensated, and awarded for their contributions to mainstream films. And the data is extremely disappointing as when looked statistically, women have made very minor strides in Hollywood over the past ten years due to the many gender hurdles they face in other industries.

The recently announced  Spirit independent film awards nominees the women outnumber their male counterparts however Genr Inequality is still rife.Whilst the focus in the media is about women in work overall we sometimes forget  acting and with so many strong female lead characters from Lisbeth Salander  to Katniss Everdeen what better time to have a look at the imbalance.

New York Film Academy  have created a fantastic infographic diving into gender inequality in some depth in front of the camera as well as behind the camera. Film is a male dominated business and Kathryn Bigelow proved the girls can play the boys at their own game with Zero Dark Thirty, now it’s time for  the world to judge a person on their ability rather than their gender.
