It may be hard to believe that Fast Food giants McDonald’s were a once modest little family run business. Even the big players had to start somewhere and in the UK trailer for The Founder, Michael Keaton is that 52 year old over the hill entrepreneur. From milkshake machines to a small burger joint, the end result you can say he’s ‘Lovin’ it’!Just don’t ask the McDonald Brothers!
Like many global companies the steps to the top aren’t short of controversy and to get there Ray Kroc made many enemies as his pockets became lined with gold.
The Founder is a drama that tells the true story of how Rav Kroc (Keaton), a salesman from Illinois, met Mac and Dick McDonald(Nick Offerman and John Carroll Lynch), who were running a burger operation in 1950s Southern California. Kroc was impressed by the brothers’ speedy system of making the food and saw franchise potential. He manoeuvred himself into a position to be able to pull the company from the brothers and create a billion-dollar empire.
They may be hated by much worldwide but you can’t deny next to jeans, Elvis and Disney, McDonald’s is an American institution. Classic Americana and Kroc knew this, 65 years on you can go to the four corners of the globe you’ll find one of the restaurants. This is not a Ronald McDonald fun type story, it’s one with a dark undertone.
This type of biopic might be a ten a penny the past few years. But when Michael Keaton another actor in the middle of resurgence thanks to the likes of Birdman, Spotlight. The Founder will be released in UK cinemas on 10 February 2017. Will also star Laura Dern, Patrick Wilson, Linda Cardellini, B.J Novak and Linda Cardellini. John Lee Hancock (Saving Mr Banks) directs this movie.
