Florence Pugh To Be ‘Hand The Baton’ In Black Widow?

There is so much we’re looking forward to when the cinemas are finally opened and safe. One of those things is the long awaited start of Marvel’s Phase 4 with Black Widow. Has the film’s director Cate Shortland revealed the future of the character Black Widow?
As we know, Scarlett Johansson’s time in the Post Avengers Endgame universe is over, what next for ‘Black Widow‘ after this upcoming film?
In a interview with Empire Magazine, director Shortland has said Natasha will ‘hand the baton’ to Yelena.
“[Kevin Feige] realised that the audience would expect an origin story so, of course, we went in the opposite direction,” Shortland tells Empire. “And we didn’t know how great Florence Pugh would be. We knew she would be great, but we didn’t know how great. Scarlett is so gracious, like, ‘Oh, I’m handing her the baton.’ So it’s going to propel another female storyline.”

As the previous trailers have confirmed Black Widow is only a title, opening the door for Pugh to carry the title a little longer. It may also a chance to fans upset with Natasha’s demise or lack of funeral to get some closure. It’s also another opportunity for the British actress to take another step in her way to the top. Little Women, Lady MacBeth,Fighting with My Family and Midsommar are highlighted the talent Pugh has.
“In Endgame, the fans were upset that Natasha did not have a funeral. Whereas Scarlett, when I spoke to her about it, said Natasha wouldn’t have wanted a funeral. She’s too private, and anyway, people don’t really know who she is. So what we did in this film was allow the ending to be the grief the individuals felt, rather than a big public outpouring. I think that’s a fitting ending for her.”
Black Widow is schedule to be released in the UK & Ireland on 28th October, with USA a week later on 6th November. But like everything else those dates are subject to change.
