First Trailer For Cannes Palme d’Or Winner It Was Just An Accident Arrives

It Was Just An Accident gets new trailer

Neon has released the first trailer for its Palme d’Or winner, It Was Just an Accident, which you can watch below!

Iranianย filmmaker Jafar Panahi returns to behind the camera after being released from prison back in 2023, and he has returned with the biggest of bangs. His first film since No Bears, …Accident premiered at this year’s Cannes Film Festival to rapturous applause (literally) and the film, a critical darling, won the prestigious Palme d’Or. Panahi has come in for huge acclaim himself, and provided more proof of his vital part in cinema and amplifying voices, politics, economics and more.

Panahi writes and directs Accident with the film beginning “with a seemingly minor accidentโ€”an unremarkable, everyday incidentโ€”that unfolds into a chain of events with escalating personal and social consequences. True to his body of work, which includes โ€œOffside,โ€ โ€œTaxi,โ€ and โ€œThe Circle,โ€ Panahi uses a deceptively simple premise to peel back layers of moral complexity, social critique, and human fragility. The ensemble cast featuresย Vahid Mobasseri, Maryam Afshari, Ebrahim Azizi, Hadis Pakbaten, Majid Panahi, Mohamad Ali Elyasmehr, Georges Hashemzadeh, Delmaz Najafi,ย andย Afssaneh Najmabadi. Behind the camera, cinematographerย Amin Jafariย and editorย Amir Etminanย bring a restrained yet urgent visual language to the film, while Panahi co-produces alongsideย Philippe Martin.

The film is set for a big run during this year’s awards season, with the film already confirmed to screen as part of the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival and New York Film Festival. Magnolia Pictures will be distributing the film in New York and Los Angeles in October, before it gets a nationwide release.
