Film Review – The Lost City (2022)

Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum star in Paramount Pictures' "THE LOST CITY."
The Lost City is an adventure comedy that has something for all the family, romance, comedy, minor elements of violence, adventure, and mystery.
We enjoyed watching this film as a family, even with it being just shy of 2 hours long! We have had a few comedy adventure movies of late – Jungle Cruise and Red Notice – and I’m here for it!
The story follows Loretta Sage (Sandra Bullock), a romantic novelist, who writes of ancient tombs and daring adventures that her “cheesy” characters embark on, who gets kidnapped by an eccentric Billionaire Abigail Fairfax (Daniel Radcliffe).
For the older generation like me, you may be forgiven for thinking you have seen this film before, for it is remarkably like Kathleen Turner and Michael Douglas’ adventures in Romancing the Stone!
I do feel Sandra Bullock carried this film and has made it the success it will surely be with her geeky, awkward character “Loretta Sage”.
Her ability to get herself in dangerous situations and casually point out the flaws in the eccentric billionaire is some of the funniest scenes, topped with the fact her publicist (Da’Vine Joy Randolph) thought it was a good idea to dress her in a pink, sparkling jumpsuit sets the chaos off perfectly.
Channing Tatum character, Alan, who is the cover model for Loretta’s books, and also lacks some life skills you’d need out in the wide, is not the hero of the hour and enlists the help of Jack Trainer (Brad Pitt) to help track down Loretta.
Alan is in awe of Jack and some amusing scenes develop. Not least of all for me when at the beginning of the movie I had said that I thought Tatum, in his long wig, looked a bit like Pitt, only for him to appear!
This movie is highly entertaining and a must-watch for any Bullock fan and muse when she shows no shame when Alan asks when the water starts to get warm if she is peeing and replies: “just go around it”.
This film is not going to please everyone. It is a typical old-school comedy adventure that the whole family can watch, have a few laughs, and have a good evening together. It is silly, it is fun, and it is just what we need right now!
The Lost City is available to Download & Keep now and on 4K Ultra HD™, Blu-Ray™ & DVD July 25th.
