Comedy is one of the most subjective art forms out there. What I find to be funny you might find to be as funny as a brick wall. I also feel that culture has a huge impact on comedy as well. Western and Eastern humour while similar have drastic differences. I feel the biggest difference is in combining the melodrama with over-the-top humour. It leads to a unique style of humour unlike what we see in the West. I bring this up as first and foremost, Table for Six 2 is a comedy. So, your enjoyment of the film will rely greatly on how well you mesh with the humour.

The filmโ€™s opening scene is centred around promoting Bernardโ€™s (one of our main leads) wedding business. The humour throughout this scene is wacky. From dramatic zones off a jealous Josephine who is not happy with her long-time boyfriend Lung being in a fake relationship with a famous star Meow. To a canto pop music video proposal, that felt ripped straight out of the 90s. For me, all the humour worked, and I laughed multiple times. A character called Mark Gor has some moments that even use aspect ratios effectively to allow the joke the land in the most effective way possible.

However what I loved most about this film was not the comedy though it was the more poignant moments. The film deals with a lot of mature ideas like what it means to be a family, to fall in and out of love, to even what it means to trust the ones we love. When the film slows down and delves into those core messages the film is truly wonderful. I love comedy films that make me feel something as well as laugh and I feel Table for Six 2 absolutely nails making you feel strong emotions.

I was shocked to see Louis Cheung Kai Chung in this film, I loved The Narrow Road which he starred in, and he continues to be a wonderful actor. Stephy Tang is also wonderful and has great chemistry with Louis Cheung Kai Chung. The great chemistry allows you to believe in their relationship. The rest of the cast also does a great job. My only real huge negative is I do find this film to be long. I feel if It was trimmed down a bit I feel the film could have left even more of an impact on me.

Table for Six 2 is a delight of a film. A gleeful and poignant film that I feel most people will enjoy. The film does not require you to have seen the first film to watch so it makes it an even more of an easy recommendation for me.
