Film Review – Dogged (2017)
Dogged is the newest release from Left films and is one of the there gems in my opinion. Releasing Monday 9th July on DVD. This brings new life to the horror genre.
Sam returns home to his tidal island home, to attend a funeral. While staying with his parents he discovers a sinister underbelly of the island he used to think of as a safe, loving place.
I thought this film was a very different type of film. It really brings something that I feel the genre needs. It is an indie folk horror that takes on a life of its own.
To be honest with you, When first hearing about this film and watching the trailer, I didn’t really get much from it. So going into the film I wasn’t sure what to expect. And I came out very shocked. It was a pretty tough film to take in because of how realistic the film was.
Although at times the acting was a little off-putting I feel that the excellent cinematography and setting helped bring the value of the film right up.
It is a great addition to Left films growing catalogue of epic horror films. They really are great for showcasing the best in new, indie horror and giving the film the chance of getting a following.
Overall I thought the film was good, had its weaker moments but overall very well done and great atmosphere.
If I had one criticism it would be the length, Dogged does stretch quite far from where I thought, but again I can see when thinking back the length might be needed. But for a low budget film like this having a sharper time run might help the film.
I enjoyed this film more than I thought I would. It went to dark places that I think horror doesn’t always go, so I liked seeing a refreshing gutsy genre piece.
