Film Review – Bombshell (2019)

Review

This is an amazing film that everyone should watch in my opinion. This happens in all workplaces, I’m not a feminist shouting from the rooftops for women’s rights and equal pay, and there is nothing wrong with that, but I am a female who at the age of 17 started work as a typist to be told that I could not wear trousers to work, skirts an inch above the knee were recommended!!

The film follows Gretchen Carlson and Megyn Kelly and their career with Fox News and highlights the awful abuse these women go through.

Roger Ailes takes abuse of his power and it becomes very clear very quickly what sort of boss this man is, and what he expects his female staff to do to keep their jobs! KEEP their jobs, let alone get on. I hated the phrase “Stand up and give me a twirl. It’s a visual medium”.

Gretchen Carlson is quite clearly not what Fox wants anymore and gets fired at the end of her current contract, but being a smart cookie, she’d already set wheels in motion to come after Roger Ailes for sexual harassment.

This is such a huge step for any single woman to take. She had no idea how many others there were, she took that leap and went after this powerful man, and thanks to her courage and strength, 22 other women came forward!

Another example of how powerful men can influence and destroy someone is when Megyn Kelly dared to question Donald Trump on his comments on women. Using his position of power he took to twitter and bullied that woman for a year.

Whilst Gretchen is pushing for Roger to be accountable and other women and either standing by her or Roger, Megyn’s silence speaks volumes! Finally, she comes forward to and this man is brought down.

This is an amazing, thought-provoking, power film. I want to say that I thoroughly enjoyed it, but that feels wrong, I was thoroughly compelled and the actors were just marvellous.
