Every New Year brings an array of different films. Some great, some not so. With new films comes the buzz around awards. Which films and actors will be up for a BAFTA? A Golden Globe? An Oscar?

There are usually a few great films that stand out in the nominees. This year it was those of the Brits. Eddie Redymane for his portrayal of Stephen Hawking in ‘The Theory of Everything’, up against Benedict Cumberbatch in ‘The Imitation Game’ for his role as Alan Turing, a homosexual man who cracked The Enigma Code in World War 2.

With Eddie winning at the Golden Globes, will he do it again at the Oscars, or will he be beaten by Benedict? Or will neither of them win it, especially as they have competition from Michael Keaton who is clear favorite for his role in ‘Birdman’.

‘Birdman’ is up for nine academy awards including Best Film. However it has competition from Wes Anderson’s ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’, who is also nominated for nine awards. We’ll have to watch the ceremony on February 22nd to find out.

Despite not being nominated for Best Director, according to The Huffington Post, ‘Selma’ is still one of the fans favorites to win, maybe for Best Picture.

As soon as someone mentions the Academy Awards to a Brit, you’ll likely find they’re already planning their Oscar Parties and all nighters to watch the ceremony unfold live.
