Does Father Figures sound very familiar? If you said yes you are right as last year this movie was doing the round as Bastards. A comedy starring Owen Wilson and Ed Helms which like many movies slides into ‘forgotten about oblivion. Now Warner Bros has taken a timeout wisely renamed the movie and today we get a new UK trailer. New name but Wilson and Helms a set of ‘Bastards’ looking for their Daddy…
The movie is the directorial feature debut for Lawrence Sher who made his name as the cinematographer for Todd Phillips (working on The Hangover Movies, Due Date, War Dogs). This gives you an idea of the potential humour this movie will provide, a movie might play on how well our leading two work together. It’s one that will have some charm, heart, once again is it a movie deliver anything new in comedy?
In Father Figures, Wilson and Helms are Kyle and Peter Reynolds, brothers whose eccentric mother (Glenn Close) raised them to believe their father had died when they were young. When they discover this to be a lie, they set out together to find their real father, and end up learning more about their mother than they probably ever wanted to know.
Justin Malen (Office Christmas Party) has penned the script, another possible indication of the type of humour this movie might provide.
Father Figures was originally meant to have been released in the UK and Ireland February this year, now arriving 16th February 2018. The movie also stars JK Simmons, Katt Williams, Ving Rhames, June Squibb, Christopher Walken and Harry Shearer.
