After this morning’s BFI London Film Festival programme launch, many of today’s news stories will have a connection with that festival. Lionsgate Films this afternoon have taken that advantage by releasing the official UK Trailer for Evan Husson‘s intensely moving drama Mothering Sunday.
The film made it’s world premiere at Cannes Film Festival with a stop at Toronto this month. The film is based on the novel by Graham Swift and stars Odessa Young and Josh O’Connor. We find ourselves in England 1924, Jane (Young), a housemaid who finds herself alone on Mother’s Day. She takes the opportunity in a secret love affair with Paul (O’Connor) he is also set to marry another woman, however events are set to change Jane’s life.
Love works in mysterious ways and there’s always someone who will get hurt. The trailer really sells the story and going by the solid reviews from Cannes this film will be on many cinephile’s radars.
On a warm spring day in 1924, house maid and foundling Jane Fairchild (Odessa Young) finds herself alone on Motherโs Day. Her employers, Mr and Mrs Niven (Colin Firth and Olivia Colman), are out and she has the rare chance to spend an afternoon of abandon with her secret lover, Paul (Josh OโConnor), the boy from the manor house nearby who is Janeโs long-term love despite the fact that heโs engaged to be married to another woman, a childhood friend and daughter of his parentsโ friends. But events that neither can foresee will change the course of Janeโs life forever.
