DVD Review - Worry Dolls (2016)

Creepy and intense.

Worry Dolls is the newest StudioCanal direct to DVD Horror film following the release of Intruders (Shut In) earlier this month. Worry Dolls is a new supernatural horror about a mysterious box of dolls given to a young girl who becomes ill after playing with them and after becoming violent. And if you are in contact with these dolls for any amount of time blood just might be split as they hold a deadly curse from Hell.

For many years since becoming a horror fan any films about creepy dolls are guaranteed to freak me out. I was hoping this would be the same, and for the most part it was, Although the film had a brilliant opening and throughout had many creepy and frightening scenes, something just didn’t click right away.

With all the big budget released Creepy Doll films such as The Boy and Annabelle, I think I went into this expecting a lot more than what I got. I am in no way saying I didn’t like this film nor am I saying it is not worth watching, I just felt a little underwhelmed.

Throughout the film I kept thinking how TV movieish this film was, which is not always a bad thing, I kept feeling that the acting was very melodramatic and then under reacting at times. I feel like this film would make a great Netflix original of made for TV movie as I kept getting that feel from it.

Like I said though, this is not a bad thing at all in fact I ended up really enjoying it as a whole even though the acting as average at times.

It was a film that I am happy to see getting a good quality release from a very well respected studio. It is nice to see a studio this big to still be releasing smaller budget, lesser known films.

I think with that as an over all I really would recommend this film. It is for sure a Sunday night horror film for any horror or thriller fan.
