Neil Marshall To Pen Thriller, The Spiral Down
It’s been confirmed that screenwriter Neil Marshall is set to write the screenplay for director Aaron Mirtes’ย upcoming project, The Spiral Down, a psychological thriller featuring Marshall’s partner Charlotte Kirkย in the leading role as a kidnapping victim.
The Spiral Down will centre on โa serial killer obsessed with perfection kidnaps Mary Doyle (played by Kirk), but as detectives close in, they discover that Mary is far from a victim. She is a dangerous escapee from a psychiatric institution with a violent past of her own.”
โAfter killing her captor and disappearing without a trace, the investigation is turned on its head, leaving law enforcement hunting an even greater threat,” the synopsis adds.
Marshall’s additional screenwriting credits include 1998’s Killing Time, directed by Bharat Nalluri, and many in British horror, starting with his 2002 directing debut, Dog Soldiers, which charts a military training program that crosses paths with bloodthirsty werewolves. The filmmaker followed up with 2005’s The Descent, which charts a cave expedition gone wrong, and 2008’s Doomsday, a sci-fi action flick centred on a deadly virus tearing the UK apart.
Marshall is also credited on the 2019 reboot of Hellboy, starring David Harbour in the titular role, as well as 2020’s The Reckoning, which also starred Kirk, and 2022’s The Lair. His last film was 2024’s Compulsion, starring Kirk in a love affair on an island.
He also directed two Game of Thrones episodes: Blackwater and The Watchers on the Wall, earning him a nod for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series.
