Dragonball Z Kai Season 1 [rating=4]

In Dragonball Z season 1 we see the return of a now adult goku (barely) and not only is he enjoying married life, he has a child now.

Just when he thinks life is peaceful a Saiyan warrior falls to earth and creates havoc looking for Goku. A series of events occur bringing in our main villain for the Saga; Frieza and he is after the dragonballs.

As a die hard Dragonball fan I was apprehensive of Kai; shortening things so that fights wouldn’t last a full series — but with the animation redefined and because it isn’t on once a week or once a day having the fights condensed really helps.

For me this is always going to be five stars! A childhood classic.

Animation is brilliant now; everything is much clearer especially for the newer televisions the previous dragonball z was annoying to say the least. However it keeps the 4:3 aspect ratio so on a widescreen tv you are going to get two black spaces at either side.

I don’t think I really need to say much about the fighting in Dragonball Z Kai. Epic?

Would that be the right word?  I could be almost romanticizing it at this point!

Plot is solid and unchanged from the original Dragonball Z and our characters are much the same too.

The extras fall a bit short so I’ll take off a star for them; but if it wasn’t for those damn extras this would be a five star buy!

Dragonball Z Kai Season 1 is a must see; definition of an era.
