Death Note: First teaser trailer of Netflix adaptation lands

What if you had the power to decide who lives and who dies?

An American live-action film adaptation of Death Note arrives as a Netflix Original later this year, and the first teaser trailer has dropped.

Based on the highly acclaimed Japanese manga and anime series, Death Note is directed by Adam Wingard (Blair Witch, You’re Next) and follows high school student Light Turner (The Fault In Our Stars’ Natt Wolf) who, after coming into possession of a mysterious notebook, realises that it grants him the power to kill whoever he writes the name of in the titular notebook as long as he envisions them in his mind. Light decides to do what he feels is right and starts to weed out criminals in the city which quickly attracts the attention of the mysterious detective known only as L (Atlanta’s Keith Stanfield), along with the incredibly bored, apple loving shimigami Ryuk (Spider-Man’s William DeFoe).

From what we’ve seen in the teaser trailer this new adaptation looks to be an interesting take on the hit series, and I’m curious to see how it is received by fans of the original.

Check out the teaser trailer for Death Note below and catch it streaming exclusively on Netflix on August 25th.

The Netflix original film is directed by Adam Wingard (Blair Witch, You’re Next) and stars Nat Wolff (Paper Towns), Margaret Qualley (The Leftovers), Lakeith Stanfield (Get Out), Paul Nakauchi (Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End), Shea Whigham (American Hustle) and Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man).
