Lionsgate Films have released the official UK Trailer for Irish drama Small Things Like These. Starring Cillian Murphy and dark secrets are about to be unveiled.
When you star in a award winning film such as Oppenheimer, the pressure is on not just for the director but the cast to match or go one better. After J. Robert Oppenheimer, Murphy’s next film takes him back home to Ireland when he discovers dark secrets withheld by Nuns. It’s also a rarity for the actor actually playing a character in his own native tongue.
In Small Things Like These, Murphy plays Bill Furlong a coal merchant in 1980s. He does seem to be suppressing trauma which is released when he discovers corruption in play at the local covenant.
Don’t expect a ‘happy’ film, if you have read Claire Keegan‘s book which this film is based on, you’ll know it’s not. How the church handled ‘fallen women’ considered ‘dissolute’ and it seems they run the rule on the town the film is based in. Could this be another award winning year for the Irish actor?
Oscar® winner Cillian Murphy delivers a stunning performance as devoted father Bill Furlong in this film based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Claire Keegan. While working as a coal merchant to support his family, he discovers disturbing secrets kept by the local convent — and uncovers truths of his own — forcing him to confront his past and the complicit silence of a small Irish town controlled by the Catholic Church.
The film also stars Eileen Walsh, Michelle Fairley, Emily Watson, Clare Dunne, Helen Behan, Liadán Dunlea, and Ciarán Hinds. Lionsgate Films will be releasing Small Things Like These in UK and Irish cinemas from 1st November.
