Anton Corbijn career behind the cinematic lens has a curious one one that seems to be building in stature, his next one Life Dane DeHaan is James Dean. Celebrating next month’s release Dehaan plays the rebel without a cause the tragic screen icon, his life in pictures thanks to photojournalist Dennis Stock.

Life tells the story of photographer Dennis Stock (Robert Pattinson) who convinced a rebellious young actor on the cusp of stardom, James Dean (Dane DeHaan) to allow him to shoot him for LIFE Magazine. The men take a trip from LA to Deanโ€™s hometown of Fairmont, Indiana, via Times Square, New York so that Stock could, in his words, capture Dean in all the environments that had โ€œaffected and shaped the unique character

While Stock thinks heโ€™s capturing a star in the moment before he breaks; in fact, heโ€™s documenting Deanโ€™s last moments of intimacy and simplicity. In the process of their journey, a deep affection and improbable friendship gradually develops between the two young men. Their trip would result in some of the most iconic images of the age and a new breed of film star.

One thing you can say is Corbijn’s films deliver strong character driven stories Life looks like follow that pattern. Whilst trailer may seem the film has a predictable feel to it, each scene gorgeously shot and Corbijn seems to capture the tone of the film perfectly. Dean was a complexed young man he had a chaotic relationship found it hard to get to the grip of been a celeb status and a heated ย relationship with the studio bosses. Stock however really captured the intimate personal side of Dean which lead to his own boss not connecting with the idea the film star was ‘hip’.

Life is Due out 25th September in UK&Ireland with Joel Edgerton, Ben Kingsley, and Kristen Hager all co-starring.
