Daisy Edgar-Jones and Focus Features’ ‘Sense and Sensibility’ Adds Six to Cast
Focus Features and Working Title Films’ remake of Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility has announced six new cast members.
Fiona Shaw, Frank Dillane, George MacKay, Caitríona Balfe, Herbert Nordrum, and Bodhi Rae Breathnach will star opposite previously announced Daisy Edgar-Jones and Esme Creed-Miles as Elinor and Marianne Dashwood.
BAFTA Award nominee Georgia Oakley is attached to direct from a script written by best-selling author Diana Reid. Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan of Working Title Films will produce alongside November Pictures India Flint and Jo Wallet.
Shaw is a BAFTA winner and three-time Emmy nominee, with credits spanning the Harry Potter franchise, Star Wars Andor, Bad Sisters and True Detective. She is set to star alongside Sacha Baron Cohen and Rosamund Pike in upcoming Ladies First for Netflix, and has previously starred in Hot Milk, Echo Valley and IF. Her roles in Killing Eve and Fleabag earned her three Emmy nominations.
Dillane is best known for his role as Tom Riddle in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. He won the Best Actor prize in the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes Film Festival this year for his role in Harris Dickinson’s Urchin. He also starred in Athina Rachel Tsangari’s Harvest, as well as several seasons of AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead and Netflix’s Sense8.
MacKay is a British actor best remembered for his lead role in World War 1 film 1917. He has also starred in films such as Captain Fantastic, True History of the Kelly Gang, and Pride.
Balfe is a 5x Golden Globes and 1x BAFTA nominee. Her role in best picture nominee Belfast earned her both a Golden Globe and BAFTA nomination. She is also known for her role in Starz’ long-running show Outlander, for which she earned four Golden Globes and three Critics Choice nominations. Balfe’s feature credits include Ford v Ferrari, Now You See Me, The Amateur and Super 8. She is set to star opposite Orlando Bloom in upcoming Paramount film The Cut, and will co-star alongside Tom Hiddleston and Willem Dafoe in Tenzing.
Nordrum is a Norwegian actor best known for his role in Joachim Trier’s Oscar nominated The Worst Person in the World. He also starred opposite Julia Garner in The Royal Hotel, and recently starred in Ernst De Geer’s The Hypnosis. He has also starred in four seasons of Young and Promising and the acclaimed Norwegian historical drama The King’s Choice.
Breathnach is set to star in Chloé Zhao’s upcoming adaptation of Hamnet alongside Paul Mescal and Jessie Buckley, as well as Ric Roman Waugh’s untitled Jason Statham thriller. She has previously appeared in the BBC’s BAFTA-nominated The Capture, and currently features in the ongoing So Awkward Academy.
Production of the film has started in the UK but no release date has been set.
