He was seen by many as one of the main players for the Allies in World War 2 and during Britain’s ‘Darkest Hour’ led the nation through that period.Veteran Scottish actor Brian Cox plays Winston Churchill the cigar smoking leader in Churchill. A movie that showcases the gung-ho PM’s hours lead up to the D-Day landings and today Lionsgate Films has sent us the first UK trailer…

CHURCHILL follows Britain’s iconic Prime Minister Winston Churchill in the days before the infamous D-Day landings in June 1944. As allied forces stand on the south coast of Britain, poised to invade Nazi-occupied Europe, they await Churchill’s decision on whether the invasion will actually move ahead. Fearful of repeating his mistakes from World War I on the beaches of Gallipoli, exhausted by years of war, plagued by depression and obsessed with fulfilling historical greatness, Churchill is also faced with constant criticism from his political opponents; General Eisenhower and Field Marshal Montgomery. Only the unflinching support of Churchill’s brilliant, unflappable wife Clementine can halt the Prime Minister’s physical and mental collapse and help lead him to greatness.

Put his political leanings to one side you can’t deny Winston Churchill’s part in winning this war and as many older relatives like to say “If it wasn’t for A or B you wouldn’t be here”. From movies like Viceroy’s House where he may not have been in the actual movie however he played a pivotal role in the story. That side sometimes regarded as ‘negative’ as with A United Kingdom, you wonder if a movie playing that side of Churchill his stature maybe a lot different.

The movie stars Miranda Richardson, John Slattery, Ella Purnell, Richard Durden, Julian Wadham, James Purefoy, Danny Webb, George Anton and Steve Cree.

Churchill will be released in UK And Ireland on 16th June (USA 2nd June).
