Colin Farrell Talks The Penguin Season Two; “I Don’t Not Want It” He Says
After a hugely successful first season for The Penguin, a spin-off from Matt Reeves’s The Batman, word quickly spread that a second season would follow at some point, but it seems that plans might be on pause for a little while.
Asked about the second season at the SAG Awards on Sunday, star Colin Farrell was asked about it was coy about returning as Oz, saying:
“I don’t want it. I don’t not want it… We all left it in the ring in those eight hours. I would hate to, just because of a quote-unquote success, have to go again and for it to be a diluted version of what people seem to feel it is, majoritively. So I’m in no rush. I have no deep desire to do it. … Sure, if they think of something that works in conjunction as a parallel to Matt Reeves’ cinematic universe and it’s a good idea, I’m open it. But it’s not something concerning me.”
News also came through the trades from DC head honchos James Gunn and Peter Safran about their upcoming plans and they also said that the second season is very much in Farrell’s court, adding:
“We don’t know. … There are a lot of moving pieces — probably most important Colin himself,” Gunn also told Variety.
What is happening is Matt Reeves’ following up, The Batman Part II, which is due to start shooting at the end of the year with a 2027 release. Robert Pattinson is returning as the Caped Crusader, as is Andy Serkis as Alfred, and Farrell is rumoured to be part of the new film as well, but no confirmation on his return, or that of Zoe Kravitz’s Catwoman/Selina Kyle either. There is also talk that Cristin Milioti will be in the sequel as Sofia Falcone, after appearing in the spin-off show.
The Penguin is available to watch on NOW TV in the UK, and its home entertainment release is set for March in the UK.
