CODA Wins Best Film As Will Smith ‘Slaps’ At 2022 Oscars

CODA_(2021)

It’s the morning after the night before, as film world’s premier night the 2022 Oscars took place. A great night for women and disability in the industry, however things will be overshadowed by that ‘slap’ from Will Smith.

The 94th Academy Awards will be remembered for a long time, sadly not always for the right reasons. Sian Heder‘s CODA win Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay with  Troy Kotsur  winning Best Actor in a Supporting Role. The first big wins for streaming service Apple TV+, but also Kotsur the first deaf actor to be nominated as well as win a major award too.

Sadly the the whole night will be remembered for it’s controversary, with several of the awards especially the Craft awards being pre-recorded. The night will of course be overshadowed by that ‘slap’ by Will Smith on Chris Rock. Smith was upset at the joke Rock had towards his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith who is suffering from alopecia. Smith yelling “Keep my wife’s name out of your fucking mouth!”, the actor has now apologised for his actions.

Jane Campion took home the Best Director Award for The Power Of The Dog, with  Ariana Debose winning Best Actress In A Supporting Role for West Side Story . The Best Actor and Actress awards went to Will Smith for King Richard and Jessica Chastain for The Eyes Of Tammy Faye.
