What if David Cronenberg made Cinderella? Emilie Blichfeldt‘s The Ugly Stepsister might be the closest to that story and IFC Films has released the Trailer. The Cinderella story steps into body horror and a world that beauty is everything!
The film marks Blichfeldt’s directorial feature debut making it’s premiere at Sundance Film Festival. The Norwegian body horror promises to make us squirm or even throw up which apparently someone did. How far will you go in the name of beauty? The director states this is an examination of the ‘tyranny of Beauty’ in a recent interview.
The Ugly Stepsister is a dark, twisted tale on the classic Brothers Grimm fairytale. Elvira is obsessed with the handsome prince but lives in her stepsister’s shadow. Elvira is determined to do anything she can to get what she wants.

The Ugly Stepsister stars Lea Myren, Thea Sofie Loch Næss, Flo Fagerli, and Ane Dahl Torp. This trailer is for the U.S promotion and IFC Films will release it in U.S cinemas 18th April. Vertigo Releasing will be releasing the film in the UK cinemas from 25th April with the film eventually heading to Shudder.
