Chris Pine Is Robert The Bruce In Netflix’s Outlaw King First Trailer

Outlaw King (2018)

Cinephiles will know Chris Pine as the young James Tiberius Kirk in the rebooted Star Trek films or as Steve Trevor in Wonder Woman. In November he will be giving up teleportation for the fight for independence with Outlaw King.

The film tells the ‘untold story’ of Robert The Bruce the one time defeated nobleman, reluctant king turn outlaw forced to battle the oppressive English occupation of Scotland. The film is directed by David MacKenzie who last worked with Pine on the brilliant Neo-Western Hell Or High Water.

We can say we’re good judges on Pine’s Scottish accent as we are based just outside the country’s biggest city Glasgow. It works fine for this film, however, overall like many non-Scottish actors playing Scottish character it falls into the stereotypical pitfalls…Not really authentic.

putting aside the accent, I’m sure the Nationalists will love Outlaw King. But will we see a Mel Gibson look-a-like William Wallace statue but as Bruce looking like Chris Pine? Check out the trailer…

The untold, true story of Robert The Bruce who transformed from defeated nobleman, to reluctant King, to outlaw hero over the course of an extraordinary year. Forced into battle in order to save his family, his people and his country from the oppressive English occupation of medieval Scotland, Robert seizes the Scottish crown and rallies a ragtag group of men to face off against the wrath of the world’s strongest army lead by the ferocious King Edward 1 and his volatile son, the Prince of Wales.

The film stars Chris Pine alongside Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Florence Pugh, Tony Curran, Stephen Dillane, James Cosmo, and Billy Howle.

The Outlaw King will be released globally including the UK and Ireland from 9th November. If you are in Canada next month, you can watch the world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival on 6th September. There will also be selected Cinemas showing the film on 9th November too.
