“With Tragedy comes strength and put your faith in our lord”. If you need that Sopranos or even Martin Scorsese style mafia fix, Jimmy Giannopoulos The Birthday Cake should fill that void. Today Signature Entertainment unearth the crime indie’s UK Trailer as a young man is determined to find the truth behind his old man’s death.

The one stand out for this film is it’s impressive cast which includes The film stars Shiloh Fernandez, Ewan McGregor, Val Kilmer, Lorraine Bracco, , William Fichtner, Ashley Benson, Aldis Hodge, Penn Badgley, Vincent Pastore, Luis Guzmán, Jeremy Allen White, and Emory Cohen.

The film follows Gio (Fernandez) son of a murdered mobster who visits his mum on his fathers death, bringing a cake. within a couple of hours his own life changes when he joins the clues to his fathers death and that life he has dodged.

We do like the set up here, just hope the film follows that momentum, The trailer delivers a glimpse into the dark, gritty world and homage to many similar genre films…

The Godfather meets Layer Cake, The Birthday Cake is a hard-hitting and gripping mob-drama directed by Jimmy Giannopoulos with a murderous all-star cast including Ewan McGregor (Trainspotting), Val Kilmer (Top Gun), William Fichtner (Prison Break), Luis Guzmán (Traffic), Lorraine Bracco (Goodfellas), Emory Cohen (Brooklyn), Paul Sorvino (Goodfellas), Penn Padgley (You), Ashley Benson (Pretty Little Liars) and Shiloh Fernandez (Red Riding Hood), who is also co-writer with Diomedes Raul Bermudez.

On one fateful evening, Gio, the son of a murdered mobster and the nephew of Brooklyn mob boss Angelo (Kilmer), carries on the family tradition of bringing a cake his mother baked to this uncle’s house for a celebration. Just two hours into the night, Gio’s life is forever changed as he begins to piece together what really happened to his father and ultimately comes face to face with the type of violence he has managed to avoid his whole life.

The Birthday Cake will be released in UK cinemas and Premium Digital from 16th July.
