Mel Gibson in the public eye hasn’t been PR friendly the past decade largely thanks to his off screen escapades and opinions. Slowly he’s working on his way back and in Blood Father he’s showing Liam Neeson he’s no the only dad with a particular set of skills. A father with vengeance on the mind but this time he’s doing the running, just don’t cross his path, he’s bullet happy, watch UK Trailer...

Harking back back to the days when Gibson was an action hero in the 1980’s and 90’s and he shows the drug cartels he’s one daddy you don’t want to mess with if you try to kill his little girl.

In Blood Father After her drug kingpin boyfriend frames her for stealing a fortune in cartel cash, 17-year-old Lydia goes on the run, with only one ally in this whole wide world: her perennial screw-up of a dad, John Link, who’s been a motorcycle outlaw, and a convict in his time, and now is determined to keep his little girl from harm and, for once in his life, do the right thing…

Premiered at this years Cannes Film Festival to some solid reviews and 87% in rotten tomatoes, in the context of Mel Gibson films it’s a fantastic return for him.It might just be the type of film that could get his career back on track, pulpy, violent, outrageously brash, essentially Gibson cleaning out the trash. For his character been an ex-con you could see it as a type of redemption too, unhinged. Yes there is some Liam Neeson/Taken vibe here but even then it wasn’t an original concept. It’s also parent/child story arc and a father’s failure to be an good parent and the reluctant to trust anyone to help his girl.

Things are looking alot better not just in front of the camera but also behind it with a certain Hacksaw Bridge starring Andrew Garfield. The film taking plaudits at Venice, with The World War II possibly earning the film Oscar nominations.

Blood Father, out ย in UK&Irish cinemas October 7 – starring ย Erin Moriarty, Diego Luna, Michael Parks, William H. Macy and Thomas Mann. Film directed by Jean-Franรงois Richet (Mesrine Part 1: Killer Instinct, Mesrine Part 2: Public Enemy #1).
