Blade Runner special – video essay and Ridley Scott interview

In the past few weeks Blade Runner has barely been out of the headlines, with the confirmation that Harrison Ford will return for the long-awaited sequel, and the recent re-release of Blade Runner: The Final Cut by the BFI. It’s no wonder then that we keep seeing video essays on the influential sci-fi pop up all over the place.

In his 7 minute video essay Los Angeles, the City in Cinema: Blade Runner, Colin Marshall discusses the presentation of a dystopian LA in the film and compares how it looks to the city of today.

Also, an interesting 1982 interview with Ridley Scott discussing the film popped up on The Playlist earlier this month, showing the director discussing Blade Runner before it’s release, and it’s subsequent poor response. The American interview with Bobbie Wygant (courtesy of Eyes on Film) sees Scott talk about his process in creating the famous images of Blade Runner, and his problems with the American rating system. A very interesting watch!
