Andrew Garfield Is A ‘Genius’ In Lin Manuel Miranda’s tick, tick…BOOM!

Netflix have released the Official Teaser Trailer for Lin Manuel Miranda‘s tick, tick…BOOM! The directorial feature debut from the creator of Hamilton starring Andrew Garfield.

The film is the autobiographical musical for Jonathan Larsson, the man who revolutionised theatre. He was behind the Broadway/West End hit Rent, created during the Aids epidemic of the 1990s. Sadly Jonathan died the day before he could see his wonderful creation on stage. This film chronicles the dreams, the work, the pressures of writing that next big musical and what to do with his remaining time.

There is a tense tone to the trailer, like the ticking timebomb a reminder time waits for no one. This is only a taster as we wait for the full trailer and if we go by Miranda’s other musical works, this might be up there too.

Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner Lin-Manuel Miranda makes his feature directorial debut with tick, tick…BOOM!, an adaptation of the autobiographical musical by Jonathan Larson, who revolutionized theatre as the creator of Rent. The film follows Jon (Academy Award nominee and Tony Award winner Andrew Garfield), a young theatre composer who’s waiting tables at a New York City diner in 1990 while writing what he hopes will be the next great American musical. Days before he’s due to showcase his work in a make-or-break performance, Jon is feeling the pressure from everywhere: from his girlfriend Susan, who dreams of an artistic life beyond New York City; from his friend Michael, who has moved on from his dream to a life of financial security; amidst an artistic community being ravaged by the AIDS epidemic. With the clock ticking, Jon is at a crossroads and faces the question everyone must reckon with: What are we meant to do with the time we have?

The film also stars Alexandra Shipp, Robin de Jesús, Joshua Henry, MJ Rodriguez,  Bradley Whitford, Tariq Trotter, with  Judith Light, and Vanessa Hudgens.

tick, tick…BOOM! will launch globally on Netflix and in select cinemas this Autumn.
