Ancient Evil Lurking Next Summer In The Mummy First Poster

Universal Pictures  promised to bring back the golden age of horror monster movies to the big screen, one false start with Dracula Untold. Taking note of the classic Orange Juice song, Universal are ripping it up and starting again and First up is The Mummy.

With the first UK trailer set to arrive Monday (5th December) today we get teased with a first teaser poster, ‘Welcome To The New World Of Gods And Monsters‘.

Tom Cruise headlines a spectacular, all-new cinematic version of the legend that has fascinated cultures all over the world since the dawn of civilisation: The Mummy.

Thought safely entombed in a tomb deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient princess (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.

From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.

If you’re going to relaunch the classic monsters in what they hope to be a connected universe what better actor to lead the line, Tom Cruise. That monster connection is teased in a 15 second U.S teaser of a trailer we get a glimpse of Russell Crowe who just happens Dr.Jekyll. Possibly they may get an MCU style link , only time will tell. As for that tag line ‘Welcome To The New World Of Gods And Monsters’, is an homage to James Whale‘s 1935 Bride Of Frankenstein which linked then the shared universe they hope to bring back to the big screen.

The Mummy is set for a 9th June 2017  in UK&Ireland co-starring Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Courtney B. Vance.
