Amy Adams Joins Cape Fear Series From Apple TV; Steven Spielberg And Martin Scorsese To Executive Produce

Amy Adams to join Cape Fear TV series

Oscar Nominee Amy Adams (Nightbitch) is joining the new interpretation of Cape Fear from Apple TV reports Variety, which both Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese, who directed the 1991 film remake starring Robert De Niro, will be executive producers on the series.

Javier Bardem (Skyfall) is portraying Max Cady in the series, the role played by De Niro and Robert Mitchum in the 1962 version, while Adams will play Anna, one of the attorneys who Cady holds responsible for his prison sentence.

Back in the 1990s, it was Spielberg who was set to make the film whilst Scorsese was interested in making Schindler’s List, but the two traded films and Spielberg remained as a silent producer of Cape Fear, released under his Amblin Entertainment banner. Now both are bringing their expertise to the new series, with Adams also an EP.

Based on John D. MacDonald novel The Executioners which served as their source material for the films, the Cape Fear series “will follow the events when a killer, Max Cady (Bardem), is released from prison and begins to harass the couple he deems responsible for his sentence, married attorneys Anna and Tom Bowden.” No word yet on who will play Tom, but expect a few fellow A-listers to be in the mix.

Adams will next be seen in Taika Waititi’s new film Klara and the Sun alongside Jenna Ortega, and Kornél Mundruczó’s At The Sea, which completed filming last year.

No word yet on when the series will be released.
