Alison Brie Talks Manifesting “Evil Assistant” And “Buffing Up” For Masters Of The Universe Reboot

Alison Brie talks Evil Lyn and Masters of the Universe

Community star Alison Brie has been talking about her upcoming role in the new reboot of the classic toyline and cartoon Masters Of The Universe, which has begun principal photography in London this month.

Speaking to Variety at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, where she is promoting her new film Together alongside husband Dave Franco, Brie was asked about the film and if she has begun buffing for her role as Evil-Lyn, telling the site:

โ€œIโ€™ve been doing it for years. Iโ€™ve just been maintaining, since GLOW, a pretty steady layer of muscle, but Iโ€™ve been trying to get a little more buffed up… I remember watching it as a kid. Less than remembering the show itself and details about the show, I more just remember the act of being in front of the TV, watching the show. And She-Ra, of course. It has been fun to go back and watch episodes of the original cartoon. Itโ€™s cheeky, itโ€™s weird, itโ€™s funny.โ€œ

She was also quizzed on the film by Collider, and she told them how she manifested the role just weeks before she was offered it, saying:

“I’m so excited about it! I sort of felt like I manifested it because I had just been talking to my team, like, ‘If I was ever going to do one of those big action movies, it just would be fun to beย villainous.’ You know? I wanted to put that out there. I was like, ‘Isn’t there a villain’s assistant that people need?’ Like, two weeks later, they were like, ‘Hey, thereย isย a villain’s assistant,’ if you could call her that. So, I’m so excited. I’ve never done anything like this before, so I’m sort of curious to see what I come up with.”

The reboot is directed by Travis Knight (Bumblebee, Kubo & The Two Strings). It is the culmination of numerous attempts over the last two decades to bring the franchise back to the big screen, with the characters only outing being in the 1987 film starring Dolph Lundgren and Frank Langella. Nicholas Galitzine (The Idea Of You) is the new He-Man, alongside Brie, Camila Mendes (Riverdale) as Teela, Idris Elba (Sonic The Hedgehog) as Man-At-Arms, and Jared Leto (Tron: Ares) as big-bad Skeletor. Expect more casting news to ramp up now the film is in production.

Masters Of The Universe is set for release on June 5th, 2026.ย
