Daniel Craig Desiring Love In Luca Guadagnino’s Queer Trailer

Former James Bond actor yearns for co-star Drew Starkey in festival favourite based on William S. Burroughs’ novel.

MUBI have debuted the official UK Trailer for Luca Guadagnino‘s Queer, which former Bond star desires love in 1950’s Mexico.

It’s been a big year for the Italian filmmaker with this one being his second film of 2024 (the other was Challengers). Queer is a lush, sensuous adaptation of William S. Burroughs’ novel, diving into being gay during a time that could get you killed. It’s been Daniel Craig‘s performance that’s being the standout.

The film is set in Mexico City in 1950’s William Lee (Craig) is an lonely ex-pat, who seems to be happy with his single life. Things change when  young man Eugene Allerton (Drew Starkey) enters William life and suddenly lusts Eugene’s company.

Leoni Horton reviewed the film at BFI London Film Festival earlier this month. Giving 5 stars and describing Queer as “an electric piece of work and one of Guadanigo’s most experimental and arresting films to date“. 1950. William Lee, an American expat in Mexico City, spends his days almost entirely alone, except for a few contacts with other members of the small American community. His encounter with Eugene Allerton, an expat former soldier, new to the city, shows him, for the first time, that it might be finally possible to establish an intimate connection with somebody.

Queer also stars Lesley Manville, Jason Schwartzman, Henrique Zaga, Omar Apollo, and Colin Bates. You can watch the film in UK and Irish cinemas from 13th December.
