Representation is a big keyword in the world of film and Crazy Rich Asians play that part. Hollywood every year seems unravelling into inequality from sexism, sexual harassment to racism.

Films like Marvel’s Black Panther gave a platform for Black actors to showcase their talents in front and back of the camera. Call Me By Your name was one of several films that brought LGBT romance into mainstream cinema. This one gives Asian actors a chance to shine and recently Stateside there have been previews and the word is good!

New Yorker Rachel Chu (Constance Wu) receives an invitation from her boyfriend Nick Young (Henry Golding) to his best friendโ€™s wedding in Singapore. Excited about visiting Asia for the first time but nervous about meeting Nickโ€™s family, Rachel is unprepared to learn that Nick has neglected to mention a few key details about his lifeโ€ฆ

It turns out that he is not only the scion of one of the countryโ€™s wealthiest families but also one of its most sought-after bachelors. Being on Nickโ€™s arm puts a target on Rachelโ€™s back, with jealous socialites and, worse, Nickโ€™s own disapproving mother (Michelle Yeoh) taking aim. And it soon becomes clear that while money canโ€™t buy love, it can definitely complicate things.

Crazy Rich Asians will be in the UK and Irish Cinemas this August (actual date to be confirmed). The guest including the bride and groom will be Gemma Chan, Lisa Lu, and Awkwafina, with Ken Jeong. Michelle Yeoh, Sonoya Mizuno, Chris Pang, Jimmy O. Yang, Ronny Chieng, Remi Hii, and Nico Santos.
