THE RAVEN Short to be created by Universal into Feature

If your a budding director wannabe, hoping one day to break into mainstream/hollywood cinema it looks like making a qaulity short film is the way to be noticed by the studio’s. It seems creating these shorts help you fast route into bigtime and Neill Blomkamp is a prime example with last year’s sci-fi hit District 9 which spun off his short Alive In Joburg which aso starred Sharlto Copely and after D-9 career is on the up (we’ll seem him in 10 days with A-team movie).

So now we can add another name to short movie directors that’s Ricardo de Montreuil whose short The Raven hit the net in April and if reports are true he has signed a deal for Universal Pictures to create the movie as a full feature.

Latino Review are reporting things are well under way for this movie with Mark Wahlberg in line to play the lead part in the full length version with De Montreuil directing and Justin Marks writing the script. According to their report Warner Bros where very interested in this project but when Wahlberg got onboard it swayed it to Universal.

Ive Posted the short below and looking at it it does borrow heavily from other movies including blomkamp himself but technically this is impressive, but im sure with a little tweaking here and there will help this movie establish itself rather than borrow from others.

The Raven tells the story of Chris Black, who “possesses a power that could lead to the destruction of the current regime, and they will stop at nothing to destroy him. The chase is on as Chris runs for his life in this sci-fi thriller set in an alternate and futuristic Los Angeles.”
