Vengeance is golden in the delightfully Finnish brutal war epic, Sisu. Lionsgate Films will be releasing the film in the U.S today we ‘strike gold’ in the official American Trailer.
Ever since it’s world premiere at Toronto Film Festival last year, the buzz for this film has been extraordinary. Jalmari Herlander has directed this one, many genre fans will know him from Rare Exports. He teams up once again with Jorma Tommila who cross paths with the Nazis in World War II final days.
Set in 1940’s North Finland, Tommila plays Aatami a gold prospector who strikes gold. However when the Nazis cross his path, they steal his gold. A big mistake, as Aatami is no ordinary miner and they quickly discover that mistake.
Sisu is hyper violent to the core. Big action and our protagonist fighting to survive against the odds in not just the weather but the wildlife too!
During the last desperate days of WWII, a solitary prospector (Jorma Tommila) crosses paths with Nazis on a scorched-earth retreat in northern Finland. When the Nazis steal his gold, they quickly discover that they have just tangled with no ordinary miner. While there is no direct translation for the Finnish word “sisu”, this legendary ex-commando will embody what sisu means: a white-knuckled form of courage and unimaginable determination in the face of overwhelming odds. And no matter what the Nazis throw at him, the one-man death squad will go to outrageous lengths to get his gold back – even if it means killing every last Nazi in his path.
The film stars Jorma Tommila, Aksel Hennie, Jack Doolan, Mimosa Willamo, and Onni Tommila.
Sisu will be released in the UK by Sony Pictures, there is no release date set yet. However you can see the film at Glasgow Film Festival, part of Arrow FrightFest on 9th March [buy tickets]. If you live in the U.S, Lionsgate Film will release the film in cinemas from 28th April.
