Tonight the BFI London Film Festival will opening with Simon Stone‘s drama Elsinore starring Andrew Scott. Studiocanal ahead of the premiere, they tease us with the heartbreaking UK Trailer!
Since the BFI announced the programme for the festival, this was one film that excited many cinephiles and critics alike. The early reviews from Telluride have been fantastic with Scott’s performance of actor a standout. No surprise there, anything the Irish actor does is gold even if the film isn’t critically positive.
Elsinore is based on the life of Scottish actor Ian Charleson (Chariots of Fire). This is a powerful, deeply moving and inspiring true story of the actor who faced great odds while preparing to give the performance of his life in Hamlet at the National Theatre in London.
The role came to Ian when Daniel Day-Lewis walked off stage, handing Ian that lifetime opportunity. As history foretells Charleson died of AIDS related illness, this film will pull at the heartstrings. Our BFI London Film Festival coverage has started, hopefully we can bring you a review of the film.
The cast for this includes Olivia Colman, Billie Piper, Johnny Flynn, Luke Thompson, David Dawson, Monica Dolan, Matthew Beard, Joe Locke, Georgie Glen, Sadie Soverall, Adeel Akhtar, Dickie Beau, Kadiff Kirwan, alongside Juliet Stevenson and Peter Mullan.
Synopsis | The deeply emotional and inspirational true story of Ian Charleson, a gifted actor whose greatest challenge becomes his greatest triumph. Facing his own mortality with unflinching honesty, wit, and grace, Charleson delivers a courageous performance that becomes a source of healing and inspiration for those around him.
Elsinore will open tonight the BFI London Film Festival tonight. Studiocanal will release the film in the UK and Ireland on 29th January 2027.
