12 years in the making, but two minutes of a potential masterpiece is Richard Linklater on course for Oscar glory with Boyhood ? Watch the first official UK trailer and check for yourselves.
Boyhood was one of the big hit’s at this year’s Sundance film festival and now it’s on course for a Summer release here in the UK. Delivering a unique style of filmmaking  Boyhood follows the same set of characters over a 12 year period (2002-2013) we meet Mason (Ellar Coltrane) then 6 year old boy we follow his life up to to his 18th birthday.
When they say 12 years this was actually done over the 12 years same actors who’ll we see grow older with him Patricia Arquette as his Mother (Olivia), Ethan Hawke his long absent father (Mason Sr) and Lorelei Linklater his older sister (Samantha). The film captures every triumph, heartache, a slice of life, a coming of age story which which is very distinctive from any other coming of age film. This is emotionally poignant stuff and capturing a couple of scenes a year delivering a sense of realism.
From the rapturous buzz from those critics who caught the film at Sundance or Berlin this film is going to be high if not top film choice for 2014. The early Oscar buzz has started but  as history for tells the release date might be it’s downfall. This trailer does seem to deliver a very good impression of the film, setting the tone but most of all not revealing the plot.
Boyhood arrives in UK cinemas from 11th July.
Synopsis
The film tracks 6 year-old Mason (Ellar Coltrane) over life’s most radically fluctuating decade, through a familiar whirl of family moves, family controversies, faltering marriages, re-marriages, new schools, first loves, lost loves, good times, scary times and a constantly unfolding mix of heartbreak and wonder. But the results are unpredictable, as one moment braids into the next, entwining into a deeply personal experience of the incidents that shape us as we grow up and the ever-changing nature of our lives.Â
As the story begins, dreamy-eyed grade-schooler Mason faces upheaval: his devoted, struggling single mom Olivia (Patricia Arquette) has decided to move him and older sister Samantha (Lorelei Linklater) to Houston – just as their long-absent father Mason Sr. (Ethan Hawke) returns from Alaska to re-enter their world. Thus begins life’s non-stop flux. Yet through a tide of parents and stepparents, girls, teachers and bosses, dangers, yearnings and creative passions, Mason emerges to head down his own road.Â
