We are recruiting writers for The People’s Movies. We are always on the lookout for new writers to come on board and write for us!
If you write for us, we can give you the platform to unleash your passion for writing, through reviewing, previewing and debating all kinds of films. This includes Hollywood blockbusters, arthouse, independent, world cinema, anime, horror and the weird and wonderful. If you have a passion for film and you want to tackle any film and film-related topic that comes your way, we want you to join us!
Writing for us means you’re free to write film reviews, post the latest news & trailers, features and articles. If you can make it entertaining, informative and creative what you waiting for?!
The opportunities don’t stop there. We can offer preview screenings (London & Glasgow), interviews, film events and festivals. Most of all, we will let you unleash your creative side.
Below is a list of positions we would love for you to join and fill – nothing is set in stone so if combining positions would get you to come onboard, please let us know (show your interest in the ‘Why should we pick you’ section). Please be aware that this is not a paid position – all of this is voluntary, for people who love films. There may be opportunities for some cash occasionally, but you’ll get to see films before they’re released, and attend film festivals and other events, and gain valuable writing experience.

Co-Editor – Do you have experience editing and want to use it to help enhance both The People’s Movies and Cinehouse websites? Email email@example.com. Tell us about your experience with some examples and why we should pick you. Also, let us know if you’re willing to help run other areas of the sites such as essays, articles, and features, as well as posting news, trailers and reviews.
Freelancers – At times we will have films which we would love for you to cover; this could be cinema previews in London and Glasgow, but mostly home releases. If you’re interested, email firstname.lastname@example.org for information on current availability. All we ask if that you’re open to review anything, even if you know it may not be great. Even better is if you’re open to all genres too. Writers who may go to previews in Glasgow, please let us know if you’re a Press Days card holder too.
Social Media Editor – In charge of the day-to-day running of both sites’ social media platforms (Facebook and Twitter), and improving the status of the sites in social media (including adding them to any other social media sites). A knowledge of SEO and perhaps PR are useful to increase visibility. (Max. 2 positions)
General Writer – You will help in every department on both sites (you can request one or both sites), writing news, trailers, articles, features, essays and reviews. You must be willing to review films that may be getting negative reviews elsewhere, and direct to DVD releases.
Cinehouse Writer – This is the same position as the General Writer but working mostly on Cinehouse. Need to have an interest in World Cinema, arthouse, independent film, cult classics, horror, anime, shorts, and the weird and wonderful.
TV Writer – Delivering the news stories, articles, essays, latest trailers as well as the reviews. We can get the latest box sets, or tickets to TV related events but you must have access to such channels as Sky Atlantic, Fox, Netflix, etc. to review the latest episodes.
LGBT+ Writer – Covering all areas of cinema and television from an LGBT perspective (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender). This includes reviews, news, trailer posting, articles, features and essays.
Podcaster/Video Blogger – This is an entirely new area for us. Do you have the equipment, experience or at least the passion to create podcasts? We want to hear from you. As well as a main podcast we would consider podcasters for horror and anime areas too. We are also looking for video bloggers – do you have an existing video blog or can you create a daily rant? Perhaps a set up for a magazine style news/review show? We want to hear from you!
Short Film Writer – Look after the short films area, posting news, trailers and posting full films. You will also review new films (online, festivals etc.)
Wrestling Writers – This is another section still new to us and we’re looking for wrestling writers. We want people who can deliver their love for the game through reviews, articles, lists, features, videos and news stories. You’ll be covering not just WWE Raw but Smackdown, NXT, ROH, TNA and other wrestling companies. If you have access to these shows, can enhance our coverage interviews or review live events, then we’d like to hear from you.
