War Dogs

Amoral, sleazy unethical dealings saw Jonah Hill locked up in The Wolf Of Wall Street. In Todd Phillips War Dogs Hill is joined by Miles Teller he will once again lower himself in the name of $$$, wisecracking and most of all gun running, watch first trailer

As Hill continues to his venture into drama, he heads back to the genre that made him famous, Comedy with Teller at his side hoping for better luck in his recent choice of films.

Based on a true story, War Dogs follows two friends in their early 20s (Hill and Teller) living in Miami during the first Iraq War who exploit a little-known government initiative that allows small businesses to bid on U.S. Military contracts. Starting small, they begin raking in big money and are living the high life. But the pair gets in over their heads when they land a 300 million dollar deal to arm the Afghan Militaryโ€”a deal that puts them in business with some very shady people, not the least of which turns out to be the U.S. Government.

On first viewing this is playing like an companion piece to The Wolf Of Wall Street, even what Pain & Gain should have played like. The comedic tone is quintessential Todd Phillips style crass, sarcastic very intense, but this is not The Hangover in Iraq, it’s based on reality. Its still dark and shows Phillips can lean into realism without loosing his momentum. I’ve not read the book/Rolling Stone article the film’s based on Arms And Dudes (the films original name) but it seems those who have, from this trailer some might be extremely frustrated as the story might be twisted or becomes more ‘loosely based’.It only scratches a surface but mixing the Bromance that made Phillips a packet with the amoral side of Scorsese’s last film might just be enough to forgive those ‘missing’ parts.

War Dogs is set for 26th August UK release date with Bradley Cooper (also producing), and Ana de Armas.
