Yesterday was a quite day as is most weekends on the film front but late last night as we shut down for the night tragic news that Whitney Houston has died aged 48. The circumstances of her death are unknown but as the last decade has been riddled with problems especially with drugs which has dominated her recent press coverage rather than her music. With those issues at mind it’s obvious like any tragic know person gossip, rumours will spread like a plague on fire but maybe true or not we might never know but if we’re going on the reports coming out it’s believed she was found dead in a Beverly Hills Hotel.

The news has come on the eve of tonight’s Bafta’s but also The Grammys one of the biggest nights in the music industry and already we know tributes will be paid to the musician/actress with Jennifer Hudson dedicating her performance tonight to Huston.Whitney Huston was one of music’s ultimate divas and her track record in music especially in 1980’s into 1990’s where she dominated the charts with hit after hit but it was her time with ex-husband Bobby Brown was when the downward spiral kicked in. Whitney Houston is the only female artist to have 7 consecutive number ones in top 100 billboard charts and albums in top 200 billboard chart.

With her music dominating the charts the musician also made the move into film and cinephiles will probably remember her the most for the 1992 film The Bodyguard starring Kevin Costner. The film was not a hit however the singer was responsible for the soundtrack which was more successful which included the iconic ‘I Will Always Love You’ with reigned in the British music charts for 10 weeks. She went to have a slightly more successful Waiting to Exaleย  and the remake of The Preacher’s Wife with Denzil Washington.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Whitney Houston’s family and close friends.
